Introduction

Welcome to Faith Kids Media. We are committed to protecting the privacy of children and their families. This Privacy Policy explains our practices regarding the collection, use, and disclosure of information through our website and services.

Faith Kids Media is operated from Glendora, California, and primarily serves English-speaking audiences. As a provider of Christian content for children, we take our responsibility seriously to create a safe digital environment. We comply with the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA) and design our services with children's privacy as a primary concern.

Note to Parents: This website is designed to be safe for children to use independently. We do not require or encourage children to provide any personal information. All child activity data (favorites, reading progress, video history, usage time) is stored locally on your device and is never transmitted to our servers. If you have any questions about our privacy practices, please contact us at privacy@faithkidsmedia.com.

Information We Collect

Information from Adults:

  • Email Addresses & Optional Name: We collect email addresses and optionally a name when adults contact us directly or choose to provide them when making a donation via Square. This information is used only to respond to inquiries or to send donation receipts. We do not use this information for marketing or share it with third parties.

Technical Information (Anonymous):

We operate our own independent analytics system (no third-party services like Google Analytics). We collect:

  • Online visitor counts
  • Basic device metrics (browser type, screen size)
  • Page session duration
  • Returning visitor statistics
  • IP addresses (anonymized and used only for aggregate analytics)

Local Storage (Device-Only):

Our Progressive Web App (PWA) uses your browser's local storage to save preferences and activity data. This data never leaves your device and is not accessible to us. It includes:

  • Parental Settings: Daily time limits, bedtime schedule, allowed features (music, videos, Bible), banned keywords for video filtering, volume limits.
  • Favorites: Videos marked as favorite.
  • Bible Reading Progress: Last read story and page, books marked as read.
  • Video Statistics: Count of video plays (used only for the parent dashboard).
  • Usage Timers: Daily and lifetime usage, activity streaks.
  • Devotional Progress: Completed days and streaks.

This local data is presented in the parent dashboard (accessible only after passing the parental gate) to help parents monitor their child's activity. No part of this data is transmitted to our servers.

Session Cookies:

  • We use PHP session cookies for essential site functionality. These are temporary and expire when you close your browser.
Important: Our analytics system anonymizes IP addresses, and we cannot identify individual users from the data we collect. All analytics data is aggregated and used only to understand overall usage patterns.

How We Use Information

Email Addresses (Adults):

  • To respond to inquiries from adults who contact us
  • To send donation receipts when requested (via Square)
  • We do not use emails for marketing or newsletters
  • We do not share email addresses with third parties

Analytics Data:

  • To understand how our site is used and improve user experience
  • To monitor site performance and fix technical issues
  • To measure the effectiveness of our content
  • All analytics are aggregated and anonymous

Local Storage (Child Activity):

  • To remember user preferences (favorites, volume) between visits
  • To save parental controls and apply them locally (time limits, bedtime, feature toggles, video filtering)
  • To track reading progress in the Bible section
  • To display usage statistics in the parent dashboard (accessible only via parental gate)
  • This data never leaves your device

We do NOT use collected information for:

  • Advertising or marketing of any kind
  • Creating user profiles or behavior tracking
  • Personalized recommendations based on browsing history
  • Selling or sharing with third parties

Third-Party Services

YouTube API Services

We use YouTube's API to display curated Christian videos for children. When videos are played:

  • YouTube may collect data according to Google's Privacy Policy
  • We use YouTube's "restricted mode" for maximum safety
  • Videos are embedded in a way that minimizes data collection
  • We do not access any YouTube user data

We use Square for donation processing. When you make a donation:

  • Square collects and processes all payment information (we never see or store credit card details)
  • You may optionally provide your name and email address for receipt purposes; we receive this information only to confirm the donation and send a receipt if requested
  • Donations are protected by a parental gate that children cannot bypass
  • Children cannot access the donation section without solving the parental gate

No Other Third-Party Services: We do not use any other third-party services, tracking pixels, advertising networks, or analytics services. Our analytics are 100% independent and operated by us.

  • For email/donation deletion, provide the email address used
  • We will confirm deletion within 7 business days

Automatic Deletion: Our system automatically purges all analytics data after 365 days. This includes IP addresses, session data, and usage statistics.

Children's Privacy (COPPA Compliance)

Faith Kids Media is specifically designed for children and complies with the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA). Key aspects of our compliance:

No Personal Information Collection from Children

We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. Our site is designed to allow children to enjoy content without providing any personal data. We have implemented multiple safeguards:

  • No registration or account creation
  • No forms that children can submit
  • No social features or messaging
  • No ability to upload content
  • All child activity data is stored locally on the device and never transmitted to our servers

Parental Gate Protection

We implement a robust parental gate that prevents children from accessing restricted areas (parental controls, donation page, external links). The gate presents a series of math problems that are intentionally designed to be solvable by adults but difficult for children ages 2–12. Features include:

  • Multiple difficulty levels with increasingly complex problems (addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, fractions, decimals, algebra)
  • Timeouts and attempt limits to prevent guessing
  • Speech synthesis to read problems aloud for younger children (but still requires correct answer)
  • Anti‑pattern detection to block automated or repetitive attempts
  • All gate logic runs locally; no data is sent to our servers

Only after successfully solving the required number of problems can an adult access the parent dashboard, donation features, or external links.

Parental Rights & Controls

Parents have the right to:

  • Review any information we might have about their child (note: we do not collect any)
  • Request deletion of any such information
  • Refuse further collection or use of their child's information
  • Set and modify parental controls directly within the app (time limits, bedtime, feature access, video filtering) – all stored locally
Parental Inquiries: If you are a parent and believe your child may have provided information to us (which our systems are designed to prevent), or if you have any questions about children's privacy, please contact us immediately at privacy@faithkidsmedia.com.

Parental Controls & Child Activity Monitoring

Faith Kids Media includes a comprehensive set of parental controls that allow parents to tailor the app to their child's needs. All settings are stored locally on the device and can only be accessed after passing the parental gate. Key features include:

  • Daily Time Limit: Set a maximum amount of time (in minutes) the child can use the app each day. Once the limit is reached, the app will block further access until the next day or until a parent resets it.
  • Bedtime Restrictions: Define a time window (e.g., 9:00 PM to 7:00 AM) during which the app cannot be used.
  • Feature Access Toggles: Independently enable or disable access to Music, Videos, and Bible sections.
  • Video Filtering by Keywords: Parents can enter a comma-separated list of banned keywords; any video whose title contains a banned word will be blocked from playback.
  • Maximum Volume Limit: Set a cap on the audio volume (applies to both music player and text-to-speech).
  • Parent Dashboard: Displays statistics based on locally stored data, including today's usage, lifetime usage, last activity, streak days, videos watched, devotional progress, and Bible books read. This information is intended to help parents understand their child's engagement with the app.

Important: All of the above data is stored exclusively on the user's device and is never transmitted to Faith Kids Media servers. The parent dashboard reads this local data and presents it only to the parent after successful authentication via the parental gate.

Data Security

We implement appropriate security measures to protect the limited data we handle:

  • HTTPS encryption for all data transmission
  • Secure server infrastructure with firewalls
  • Regular security updates and patches
  • Limited access to data (only essential personnel)
  • Regular security audits of our codebase
  • Secure password policies for administrative access

Our Security Philosophy

We follow the principle of data minimization:

  • We don't collect data we don't need
  • We don't store data longer than necessary
  • We use local storage instead of server storage when possible
  • We anonymize data at the earliest opportunity
Security Notice: While we implement robust security measures, no system can be 100% secure. We continuously monitor and improve our security practices to protect our users' privacy.

  • Disable Cookies: Browser settings can block cookies (may affect site functionality)
